The Government of India has enforced or executed the new taxation policy i.e GST (Goods and Services Tax) from 01st July 2017. The main aim behind this execution is to make the taxation process convenient and easier and therefore PM Modi brings out the "One Country One Tax" rule across
 the country.

In order to deposit the tax charged on your business, you need to register on GST Portal. Once you register on GST Portal, you will be given GST number against which tax will be filed or deposited.


Documents Required for GST Registration:-

Below documents are required in order to apply for GST Number (Individual or Sole Proprietor).

  • Applicant's Aadhaar Card.
  • Applicant's Identity Proof.
  • Bank Statement or Passbook Photocopy.
  • Address Proof (Business Location)
  • Applicant's Passport Size Photo
  • Rent Agreement Certificate if Business is started on rented place.

Requirement of GST:-

We will discuss below the scenario where GST registration must required :-

  • Where business turnover is above Rs 40 Lakh.
  • In the North East area's, GST registration is required if Business turnover is over Rs 20 Lakh.
  • E-Commerce Companies must have GST number to run over their Business. (If Having more than one seller).
  • For NRI, GST registration deadline has been set up to 90 days from the starting of the business.

How to Register on GST Portal Online:-

If you want to register yourself on GST Portal, follow the below process step by step:-

  • Choose the "Registration" option under Services section on the homepage of the web portal.


  • Under "Registration" option, you will get three options, choose the first one i.e "New Registration" and click on it, a new web page will open in front of you.

  • Fill all the information asked and click on "Proceed" button.
  • You will receive One Time Password on your registered Mobile number, enter it in the given area.
  • A Temporary Reference Number -TRN will be appear on your mobile/Desktop screen.
  • Please keep this TRN for future reference.

Once you done with the above steps, visit the homepage again and go to Registration >New Registration page again.


  • Now you have to select the TRN (Temporary Reference Number) option. once you select, below page will open in front of you.


  • Enter the TRN number and Security Code. Once done, click on Proceed button.
  • As soon as you click on "Proceed" button, One time Password will be sent to your registered mobile number and Email Id.
  • Enter the same in given area and click on proceed button.
  • Now you have to select the business type and upload the required documents in the form.
  • Once done, save the application form and complete the process by clicking on Proceed button.
  • Application Number will be sent to your Email d.


How to Track GST Application Status:-

Once you have registered yourself on GST Portal, you can track your application status on Portal Online.
  • Visit the GST Portal
  • Choose the Registration option Under Services Section on the homepage.
  • Under Registration, choose the "Track Application" option.

  • Enter the Application Id.
  • Click on "Search" button.
  • Application status will display on your screen.
